JUVENILE JUSTICE – THE INMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLUM

AUSTRALIA’S juvenile justice system, ­nationally, is unravelling. In the past few months incarcerated juveniles have rioted in Queensland, Western Australia and Victoria, with serious incidents in the Northern Territory.

So bad is the situation in Victoria the government ­recently placed a number of ­violent juveniles in an adult facility after they destroyed their accommodation.

Those same detainees ­reacted a few days ago by turning on their supervisors, ­assaulting one so badly he will be off work for three months. One of the youths was 190cm (6ft 3in) and 165kg.
